A visit to Doi Inthanon will take an entire day. In Chiang Mai, from the Airport Shopping Center take highway number 108 and drive south. After about 57 kilometers, near Chom Thong, turn right into highway number 1009. Drive another 48 kilometers along this road to reach the summit.

Along the way up the mountain you will find several signboards pointing to waterfalls. Visit one, and leave one for the afternoon on your way down the mountain.

Before you reach the summit you will first reach the two Napamaytanidol Chedi. It’s a good place to stop and walk around. Climb the stairs to the Chedi and enjoy the view over forest mountains and valleys. Then continue your trip to the summit of Doi Inthanon.

The road ends near the top of the mountain. On the right side of the road is a small walking path leading to a signboard which give the exact height of the mountain, specified to one tenth of a millimeter. Apparently the mountain is exactly 2565.3341 meters high. More or less.

Near the parking place you can enjoy a cup of coffee before starting a forest walk on the other side of the road. The trail is clearly marked. Wooden footbridges help you get around easily. It’s a special place with many old trees covered in ferns. The sun shining through the branches creates beautiful lights for photography. Bird lovers will enjoy the walk as many rare birds species live in this forest.
